Planning to pick up a Ruger Mark IV Tactical for my birthday, and the thing seems to just be screaming for a red dot sight. I'm not looking to spent a bunch of money on glass for a .22lr that will mostly be used as a suppressed plinker. However, I used to enjoy (and be pretty good at) Steel Challenge, and I have considered getting back into that as my kids get older.
Options I've been considering:
Burris Fastfire 3 (3 MOA dot or 8 MOA dot)
Vortex Venom (3 MOA dot or 6 MOA dot)
Primary Arms Micro Dot (2 MOA dot)
The PA dot is about half the street price of the other options. I'm mainly considering it because I have one on my wife's M&P 15-22 that's held up well over a few years of use, and I might use it as a 'take off' and upgrade the red dot on that rifle instead.
Is the larger dot and more open / tubeless design of the Burris or Vortex a significant advantage when used on pistols?

MKIII Holster Details - A brand new design made just for the Ruger Mark III, the brand name is Black Dog and I think it was made for them by an outfit called tdlabs.com. I checked and they make advanced police holsters! This Ruger Mark III Holster from Black Dog has adjustable retention, adjustable fit, and is configurable for right or left hand use.
